VETERINARY SCHOOL Specifics

There are 32 colleges and schools of veterinary medicine in the US, 5 Canadian Colleges and 20+ international institutions of veterinary. Not all schools take international applicants so it is important to check.

The AAVMC maintains a list of overseas veterinary schools (members and provisional members).

Cornell University Colleges of Veterinary Medicine

  • Cornell offers the opportunity to discuss your application with a member of the admissions team. Take advantage of this free service!!

  • Cornell also created an app just for pre-vet students to track you volunteer hours. Download it from the App Store. It’s called: Cornell Pre-Vet Tracker

  • Subscribe to the Pre-Vet Newsletter

  • Cornell is rather transparent in their admissions criteria. They offer a percentage breakdown of how your application will be evaluated. Do the calculation for yourself and see if you are competitive.

Study Abroad Opportunities for Pre-Vet Students

  • Loop Abroad offers both in person and online courses, research and internship programs. Loop programs are designed by veterinarians and taught by veterinarians. Credit available through the University of Findlay.

  • “The situation at Texas A&M highlights a wider problem of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in veterinary medicine. For years, veterinary medicine has lagged behind other health professions in promoting DEI. The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges’ (AAVMC) 2019-2020 Annual Data Report shows that veterinary students are still overwhelmingly white, heterosexual, and female, with 80% of students identifying as straight.”
